Incidence rate and financial burden of medical errors and policy interventions to address them: a multi-method study protocol

Abstract Medical error is one of the most critical challenges facing medical services. They pose a substantial threat to patient safety, and their costs draw attention from policymakers, health care planners researchers. We aim make realistic estimation incidence related identify factors influencing this in Iranian hospitals. In first phase multi-method study, through two reviews systematic meta-analysis, we will estimate errors strategies reduce them. extract available data among 41 hospitals supervised by East Azerbaijan University second phase. also develop model use Delphi method predict calibrate our output using Monte Carlo simulation. compare with rate based on meta-analysis results third phase, investigate relationship between several potentially incidence. fourth associated conducting records review matching those claims errors. fifth present policy brief for reduction Iran. Our findings could benefit policymakers other countries costs.
